Hello,
I have a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 with a 351C and an FMX automatic transmission, a few weeks ago when I put my car into reverse and kind of stepped on it, the car shuddered and shook real bad, and didn’t go anywhere. And most recently shifting from 1st to 2nd is slipping real badly. So I think that it is time to either rebuild this current transmission, OR what I would like to do is try to find a compatible automatic transmission that would bolt up to my 351C… I would like an AOD, or anything more then a 3 speed for better gas mileage, since I am traveling freeways quite a lot. It’s mostly a stock engine making no more then 300 horse… I just would like a reliable trans that can handle the power that the car puts out… Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time…

The Ford 400 engine was based on the 351 Cleveland. It had a half-inch (12.7 mm) longer stroke than the 351 Cleveland, making it the longest-stroke Ford pushrod V8 engine. The 335-series 351-ci engine introduced for 1970 quickly became known as the “Cleveland” for identification purposes because there was also the raiseddeck 289/302 engine displacing 351 ci known as the “Windsor” introduced a year earlier in 1969, which made things confusing for Ford dealer service technicians and shop mechanics everywhere.
